Episode 56 - Narelle Mason

This week on Triumph Beyond Trauma, we’re featuring Narelle Mason — a Level 2 registered counsellor, former South Australian Police Officer, Royal Australian Air Force veteran, and co-founder of Frontline Mental Health with Matt Newlands.

With over 15 years of frontline service, Narelle knows the impact high-pressure roles can have on mental health, identity, and family life. After her own medical discharge, she faced the reality of rebuilding life outside of uniform while raising a child with significant needs and supporting a partner still serving.

That journey now drives her passion for helping first responders and veterans spot the early signs of struggle, build resilience, and create healthier ways to cope.

In this episode, Narelle shares how she and Matt are shaking things up through programs like Stress, Resilience & Functioning and the Struggle Well initiative (partnered with Boulder Crest Foundation) — designed to do more than just tick boxes, but to create real cultural change. She also opens up about her personal goals, the work she’s doing on emotional growth, and why this mission means so much to her.
